秋桜 Cosmos
山口百恵 Momoe Yamaguchi
Released in October 1977, this song is her 19th single. Momoe Yamaguchi is a legendary singer before Seiko Matsuda. When she was at the top of Jpop, she got married to an actor Tomokazu Miura and retired completely from the show-biz in 1980.
Originally written by another legendary singer-song writer, Masashi Sada, the lyrics by itself is a masterpiece. It illustrates the feeling of a mother who sends her daughter off to a new life. Cosmos is written as “秋桜" in Kanji, which means cherry blossom (桜） of autumn (秋）. In Japan, you can see pale pink fragile-looking cosmos swaying in the wind from September through October. It reminds me the beginning of autumn.
